Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
IIMA recognizes the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion. This value applies in student admissions to all programmes and in faculty recruitment.
Providing opportunities, irrespective of gender, physical ability, caste or economic status, is not only a value but a legally mandated obligation under The IIM Act, 2017 and the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006.
IIMA sees diversity, equity and inclusion as not only an ideal but a practical necessity: all types of systems and enterprises are gradually becoming more diverse; decision-making and guidance for these organizations requires the ability to relate to diversity and getting the cooperation of all for the success of the endeavour. Failure on this front means a handicap in facing the challenges of the future.
The Institute has different students and staff bodies to ensure that students from challenging backgrounds are provided all support during their stay and learning on campus. From infrastructure that provides easy access to students with physical disabilities to instituting committees such as IIMAlly that address issues faced by students from the LGBTQ+ community, the Institute has built a framework for supporting students that come from diverse backgrounds. The Vikram Sarabhai Library offers study material in Braille along with software that converts text to voice for students who are visually challenged.
The Equal Opportunity Student Committee (EOSC) is a student club that has been set up to look at the welfare of students with disabilities. The Equal Opportunity Office run by staff members is another such body that undertakes welfare activities for such students. From ensuring that they have been provided accommodation as per their needs to equipping them with technological tools, IIMA is sensitive towards providing solutions to support students with special needs.
