C Gopinath

Professor Chandrashekhar Gopinath worked in Centre for Management in Agriculture from 10th May 1971 to 30th June 1990.

In 1950, he earned his BSc from the University College in Trivandrum. Later, he pursued a BTech in Agricultural Engineering in 1952 from IIT Kharagpur. Prof. Gopinath worked with various government research organizations including the Soil Conservation Centre in Dehradun and the Central Arid Zone Research Institute in Jodhpur. He obtained his PhD in Agricultural Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1972.

Prof. Gopinath served as Director of the Centre for Management Development in Trivandrum from October 1989 to May 1995. He worked with the Kerala Government as the Nodal Officer for the Indian Institute of Management in Kozhikode. He also served as the Additional Director of Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra in Trivandrum from June 1995 to May 1996.

Prof. Gopinath contributed substantially to the Kerala Research Programme on Local Level Development, a major project funded by the Netherlands Government, Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum.

At IIMA, he was Coordinator of the PGP Programme in Agricultural Management; Chairman of the Placement Committee (1980-1982) and Chairman of the CMA (1981-1984). He was also a member of the Policy and Planning Commission. He lead a team to execute the World Bank Project on Farm Tratorisation in Gujarat. Prof. Gopinath had 80 publications including research reports, monographs and papers to his credit.

Described as a hardworking and intelligent student by his colleagues, Prof. Gopinath was at the top of his class in IIT Kharagpur. He passed away on 12th September 2011 at the age of 81, leaving behind his wife and daughter.
