The Education department of Delhi government will shift its focus on making classrooms more interactive, with teachers who received training from abroad and at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A)leading from the front. "We want to focus on the interactive classrooms and the government is ready to provide all the technological support for that," said a Delhi government official. As part of a Delhi government initiative, IIM-A is training principals of all Delhi govenment schools.

The training is being imparted to batches of 50 principals each, for the 924 schools run by Delhi government. The first training programme for principals began on April 30 this year and lasted seven days. An IIM-A faculty member also visited five to seven schools in Delhi and spoke to a focus group of 40 principals to know about government schools. The Education department also sent its first batch of teachers to Singapore's National Institute of Education for training.

The Aam Aadmi Party-led government has decided to send nearly 200 teachers for training. The aim of this initiative is to ensure that teachers would implement their learnings for the betterment of the government school students. Delhi Education minister Manish Sisodia earlier had said that this time, the government would send 200 teachers from government schools, with the first batch comprising 25 teachers.

This was the first batch of teachers to reach Singapore. If the initiative proves to be a success, the government will further expand it. The government also plans to use these trained teachers to train other teachers and instruct them on modern techniques of teaching. The government, with education as its priority, will also provide new infrastructure to schools by means of which teaching can be more interactive and the students will be interested in subjects. The new infrastructure includes digital boards, audio-visual systems and other techniques.
