Agentic Coding with Applications in Transportation and Logistics introduces participants to AI-assisted programming to accelerate data science and analytics workflows. Through hands-on examples from transportation and logistics, participants will learn how AI coding assistants can help write and debug code (even with no or limited coding background), explore and analyze datasets, develop mathematical models, generate test cases for validation, create insightful visualizations, and interpret results.
The session will also demonstrate practical prompting strategies and effective workflows using tools such as Codex, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot, while emphasizing validation, responsible AI use, and human oversight.
Finally, examples will illustrate how agentic coding can enhance teaching by enabling the rapid development of interactive demonstrations and classroom exercises, equipping participants with practical techniques that can be immediately applied in research, industry, and academia.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Arvind Kumar is a seasoned Operations Research practitioner with 20 years of experience helping large logistics, transportation, and e-mobility companies use analytics for better planning and execution. At Optym, he has mentored several teams of OR practitioners in solving complex problems involving routing, network design, and scheduling using MIP, heuristics, graph algorithms, simulation-guided optimization, and advanced data structures. He has worked with several Fortune 500 companies worldwide, including CSX Transportation, Deutsche Bahn, Toyota, BHP, Komatsu, and Accenture, helping them implement advanced optimization-based solutions. He also advises startups and small businesses on developing young analytics teams, translating business problems into mathematical models, and strengthening the process of applying OR tools in real-world settings. He holds a BTech from IIT Madras and a PhD from the University of Florida. He is also a recipient of best paper awards from INFORMS in the fields of medical and military applications.
