PGP-FABM Recruitment Process
The on-campus recruiting program at IIMA, noted for its focus on corporate customer service, provides a convenient way for you to interview our students for permanent employment and summer internships. The process has been designed jointly by the faculty, recruiters and students over the years and tries to optimise the interests of all stakeholders in the placement process. Typically, the placement season commences in November with the summer internship placement and ends with the graduate placement in February-March.
For the detailed placement calendar and co-ordinating your participation in placements, please write to your relationship manager or the placement office. If you are a first time recruiter, please write to placementoffice@iima.ac.in.
You will be assigned a relationship manager who will be your one-point contact from IIMA.
Internship Recruitment
Summer Internship is an important and integral part of the academic curriculum at IIMA. The first year consists of three terms that stress on academic rigour and the development of technical skills. The summer internship that follows lasts for 8-10 weeks and tests the students thoroughly on this learning.
The objective of the summer internship process is multi-fold. It helps the students:
Gain first-hand experience in a particular industry with ample opportunity to innovate, add to and challenge ideas and techniques imbibed in the first year.
Be more receptive to market needs
Decide their area of specialization in the second year.
Another important facet of summer internship is the flow of information about the company: the project work and related experiences of the intern eventually gets communicated to the entire batch through informal, as well as formal, means. This gives the company an opportunity to enhance its visibility on campus by using the intern as an ambassador to present itself to the batch.
The Institute has always enjoyed extensive corporate support; with the result that summer projects have been diverse, challenging and intense learning experiences.
There is also an academic component - interns prepare a report on the summer assignment and present it to the organisation.
Graduate Recruitment Process
The PGP-FABM Graduate Recruitment Process is driven by PGP-FABM Students' Placement Committee with the help of the Placement Office. They liaise with the companies particularly agribusiness companies to provide details about the students who will be graduating and are available for placement. All companies participating in the process have a dedicated Relationship Manager (RM), who is responsible for facilitating the process for the recruiter.
The campus interactions and interviews generally happen between Jan-Mar for the graduate recruitment, known as lateral placements and final placements. Companies are invited on campus for Pre Placement Talk's (PPTS's) as per the interest of the participants. This is followed by the actual GD/PI rounds for selecting the graduates.
Lateral Recruitment Process:
The objective of lateral placements is to place students with extensive work experience at levels commensurate with their relevant experience. Typically, nearly half the graduating class has work experience of over a year and a separate lateral placement period outside of the regular placement week has been designated for the placement of these candidates.
The lateral placement period extends over the month of January. Companies can schedule interviews for lateral entry candidates during this period.
Companies, in the past, have found it advantageous to use the lateral placement period to recruit candidates for middle management positions before the placement week commences.
For a company that is unable to visit the campus before the commencement of the placement period, the company is free to recruit for non-entry level positions during the placement week starting in second week of February.
For more details kindly contact your Relationship Manager (RM) or the placement office.
Final Recruitment Process:
All students are eligible for the finals process which is conducted in the month of February. The recruitment process involves the following parts:
Show of interest by the company: Interested firms provide a Job Description, including details about the company, financials, role offered, location and salary.
Pre-Placement Talks & Presentations: The firms come down to campus for a Pre Placement Talk to give a brief introduction about the company and role being offered by the company.
Application from Students: Interested students apply for the company through a Curriculum Vita. It includes the educational, co-curricular & extracurricular activities and work experience related details of the students.
Short-listing Procedure: Companies shortlist candidates either based on the CVs and applications or through Group discussion process. After shortlisting, the company gives a list of shortlisted candidates in their order of preference.
Interview process: Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by the company on the day of the final process. They then finally decide to extend the offers to the selected candidates. Companies are encouraged to give extended shortlists for the offers.
