Professor Suresh Chandra Kuchhal worked in the Finance and Accounting Area of IIMA from 21st August 1962 to 31st July 1988. He was a founding member of the group that helped build the Institute's ethos.

Prof. Kuchhal completed his BCom (1947), LLB and MCom from Allahabad University. There, he began his work as a Senior Assistant Professor for the next 13 years.

He then went to Harvard University between 1961 and 1962 as part of an International Training Programme sponsored by the National Productivity Council. On his return, Prof. Kuchhal joined IIMA. In 1976, he was a part of the Faculty Exchange Programme held at the Institute of Management in Morogoro, Tanzania. He was also a Visiting Professor at the Delhi University for several years.

Prof. Kuchhal was an active member of several associations including the Council for Higher Education & Research in Gujarat. He served as the Chairman of the Finance & Accounting Department at the Institute between 1962 and 1972. He was also the Convener of the Task Force for Faculty Development Centre (FDC) in 1978. He was the Chair Professor of IFCI from 1979 to 1988 and later on IFCI Chair Professor at Delhi University in 1989-90. He was also a Visiting Professor at the International Management Institute, New Delhi from 1989 to 1994.

He wrote the following books, which ran into several editions in addition to number of articles in leading periodicals (a) Corporation Finance (b) Industrial Economy of India (c) Financial Management- An Analytical and Conceptual Approach.

He acted as a Course Director for executives and teachers development programmes of Tribhuvan University, Nepal over a period of 3 years. He was also involved with the co-ordination of Management Development Programmes at IIMA, and other organizations like All India Management Association, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Bankers Training Collages and a number of public and private sector organizations.

He was a member of various committees set up by Union Government of India: (a) High Power committee, Ministry of Finance, Government of India for re-organisation of Indian Civil Accounts Service (1989-90). (b) Member of working group set up by RBI for inspection of Commercial Banks (1981-83).

He was a consultant to corporate bodies and financial institutions at the national and international levels and a number of organizations in private and public sectors like UTI, RBI, LIC, GIDC, NABARD, GIIC, Bharat Pumps and Compressors, HMT, SBI, etc. Among the private sector organizations: Bajaj Auto, Tata Steels, Tata Motors, Batliboi & Co. Orissa Industries, NOCIL, Mukund Iron and Steel, DCM, JCT, Sanghi Industries Ltd., Escorts Assets Management. He was also a consultant to World Bank and visited International Finance Corporation, New York University, Commonwealth Secretariat, London in connection with a research project on Venture Capital under the UNDP Fellowship in 1989. He was a visiting faculty member of Mc Gill University, Montreal in 1991. He was a consultant to the Chairman of IFCI in 1995 on the dispute of Modi family members on distribution of their share-holding and management of Group companies.
