Professor Girja Sharan worked in the Centre for Management in Agriculture from 17th February 1971 to 1976 and again from January 1982 to May 2009.

Prof. Sharan obtained his BSc from Allahabad Agricultural Institute in 1964. He then went to Canada to pursue an MSc in Power and Machinery from the Guelph University, Ontario, 1967. Later, he attained a PhD in Power and Energy from Cornell University in 1971.

After spending six years with the Institute, Prof. Sharan became a Senior Fellow at the Indian Council of Social Science Research till 1980. He later joined the Sardar Patel Institute of Economic and Social Research as a Professor till 1982.

Beginning August 2009, Prof. Sharan worked at the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology as a Professor. He also held several administrative posts during his tenure including Chairperson of the Centre for Management in Agriculture; Member of the Editorial Advisory Board; Member and Chair of the Research Evolution Committee: Science and Society Division of Department of Science and Technology; Member on the Board of Sadguru Water and Development Foundation Trustees and Chairperson of the Gujarat Energy Development Agency Research Committee.

He is a recipient of many awards and accolades including the Gold Medal at the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers in December 2005. Prof. Sharan was also conferred with an award in January 2005 by the Plastindia Foundation in Mumbai for the innovative use of PETB film in the desert areas of Kutch. He also won an award at the Global Development Market Place Competition held by the World Bank in Washington in September 2005. Prof. Sharan won an award at the India Country Level Development Marketplace Competition held by the World Bank in New Delhi in June 2004. In 2000, he became an Elected Fellow in the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers in New Delhi. Prof. Sharan was also an elected Fellow in the Institute of Engineers (India) in March 2001.

He published several books including Dew Harvesting. He also published several monographs and papers in journals and periodicals across the world.
