Professor Virendra Kumar Gupta worked in the Centre for Management in Agriculture from 21st December 1964 to 31st December 1990.
He was with IIMA for 25 years until his retirement. He held a number of posts both academic as well as administrative for the CMA. After his retirement, he helped promote the AGCO group.
He received his post graduate degree from the University of Lucknow after which he specialized in Agricultural Business at the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, and Harvard University. Prof. Gupta taught courses on Agri Input and Output and Cooperative Organization. He was a Consultant to several world organizations including the FAO in Rome and the International Rice Research Institute in Manila.
Prof. Gupta functioned in the capacity of a Coordinator of several international management development programmes in fisheries, paddy rice systems and dairy. He was also a Consultant to many organizations in the government and cooperative and private sectors related to similar domains including fertilizers, pesticides, farm power, and rural electrification. As Chairman of the CMA, Prof. Gupta was responsible for 15 faculty members engaged in a mix of activities including teaching and research and consultancy.
He authored several works including, Performance of Integrated Milk Co-operatives (1988), Management in Small Poultry Farms: A Study in Maharashtra and Gujarat Regions and Environmental Water: Advances in Treatment, Remediation and Recycling, and Perspectives in Animal Ecology and Reproduction. His other publications include 24 research monographs, several articles in professional journals, and technical notes and cases. He also worked on several consultancy assignments from agencies including the FAO, ILO, Ford Foundation and the International Cooperative Alliance.
His passion lay in the fisheries sector of the country. He expired at the age of 62.
