The Supreme Court of India has made a significant step towards achieving equal rights for all by issuing recommendations to address detrimental gender stereotypes that support differences. The Handbook on Combating Gender Stereotypes lays forth a set of dos and don'ts for judicial decision-making and writing, which assists judges in recognizing language that promotes outdated and "incorrect ideas," about women in particular, and provides substitute terms and phrases.
