Management Research in the Indian Context: Opportunities and Challenges

About the Workshop:
The workshop will be held from January 4 to 6, 2019 at IIM Ahmedabad, India.
Focus of the Workshop:
The workshop will provide a unique platform for researchers working on social science/management papers to meet IIMA and other international faculty, get feedback on their on-going research, and learn about the various steps to developing strong research papers. The workshop will be interactive and will allow for in-depth discussions and individual feedback.
The workshop will consist of two parts.
Part 1 (January 4-5, 2019): Conducting High-Quality India-Centric Research
- Topic 1: High Quality Research Writing
The presenters will share guidelines and tips to keep in mind when developing the different sections of a good manuscript and writing an impactful paper.
- Topic 2: Management Research: Understanding the Indian Context
Session will focus on leveraging Indian wisdom for management (OB, HRM and Strategic Management) research. The session will highlight the importance of grounding our research in the Indian wisdom, traditions and the necessity of doing highly contextualized research showcasing the unique context of India in terms of national culture, regulatory, social, and political conditions.
- Topic 3: Crafting and Conducting High-Quality Qualitative Research
The session will introduce the participants to various qualitative research methods (thematic analysis, grounded theory, case-based research) and will provide them insights of how to conduct such research.
- Topic 4: Crafting and Conducting Mixed-Methods Research
The session will introduce the participants to the ideas and technicalities involved in mixed-methods (a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods) research.
Part 2 (January 6, 2019): Paper Development Workshop
The Paper Development Workshop will consist of group discussions for participants to receive detailed feedback from experts on their ongoing research projects. The groups will have approximately one-two faculty and four-five participants to allow for in-depth discussions.

Submission Procedure for Paper Development Workshop
To participate in the ‘Paper Development Workshop' (January 6, 2019), please submit an extended abstract of 2,000-3,000 words to firstname.lastname@example.org by December 1, 2018. Your abstract should clearly summarize the study's focal area, theoretical background, research gap and question, and include details about the data, analytical strategy (for empirical papers), and preliminary results. Participants need to be registered for the complete workshop to participate in the ‘Paper Development Workshop'.
The Paper Developments Workshop will take place at IIM Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad, India. The workshop will not arrange for participant accommodation. Participants will need to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses. The workshop fees will cover lunch on all workshop days, one networking dinner (on January 5, 2019) and tea/coffee on all days.
