The well-structured course with prime focus on quality research, publication, case method and participatory teaching methodology has given the edge to stride in the right path of academia. Dr. Vivek Ranga, Dean & Campus Head at ICFAI Business School, Ahmedabad

I was participant of 33rd FDP at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in the year of 2011.  Participation in FDP has significantly contributed in improving my teaching and research skills. I  had 10 years of teaching experience and had submitted PhD thesis before joining FDP. The IIMA campus offers an intellectually stimulating environment with state of art library and abundant online resources.

The professors at  IIMA were incredible with rich research experience and industry knowledge . They keep the class highly engaged and participative with their unique style of teaching. Every course was taught  in combination of classroom instructions, field project with individual and group work. The Case discussions were immersive and oriented on techniques on class room management, board plans for leading case discussions. Most of the cases discussed were written by the Professors themselves and hence provided valuable insights on case writing alongwith the Case Writing Module. Throughout the program we were oriented to various research paradigms and techniques in the management domain and directions for quality publications. The teaching styles demonstrated high academic standards adopted by the faculty members. It was  insightful to witness the way Professors  introduced the course, conducted classes, conducted evaluation and provided feedback on participants performance. Overall for me FDP was very enriching  and has immensely helped me to identify and focus on my research for publications and developed my abilities as Case Writer.

I strongly recommend FDP at IIMA to anyone who is keen to learn and improve teaching and research skills in management teaching.  Joining FDP at earlier stage of teaching career would be more beneficial as it would help in upgrading teaching skills and identifying research direction. The FDP provides an opportunity to learn from the best practises of IIMA and adopt them appropriately to your own institutional contexts.

At present I am Dean & Campus Head at ICFAI Business School, Ahmedabad since July 2012.  IBS offers two years management programme at nine locations in the country since 1995 and has been one of premier business school with more than 38000 alumni members.

It has been long and fulfilling journey at IBS, I joined the institute as Faculty Associate in July 2001 after a brief stint of 2 years with industry after my post-graduation in management. I got promoted as Faculty Member in 2003 and as Associate Dean in 2008. Over the years I had been teaching subjects in marketing at IBS and has been associated as Visiting Faculty at NID, Ahmedabad and University of Paderborn, Germany. I had been conducting Faculty Development & Case Workshops in India and Middle East on management teaching.  I am the editor of ICFAI Journal of Entrepreneurship Development and was the reviewer of 7th IIMA Marketing Conference. I am on the board of studies of AISECT University, Bhopal, Case Centre of GTU and CII Western Region. I was awarded Best Teacher for Institutional Building by IBS Alumni Federation in the year 2015.

During my journey with IBS, apart from teaching I had handled various additional responsibilities as co-ordinator. The most significant had been as Coordinator of Corporate & Alumni relations for 12 years for generating placements of the students. In this role I had an opportunity to interact with industries in India and abroad. Also as part of industry and academic partnership I had travelled to Middle East, Europe, South Africa and United States.

In  my current role as Dean the exposure at IIMA had given dimensions of academic leadership which is critical for managing and meeting expectation of intellectual faculty pool.

Dr. Bijal Mehta – Assistant Professor; Ahmedabad University

The Faculty Development Programme in Management (FDP – M) at IIM – Ahmedabad, was one of the most memorable and professionally transforming experiences for me. The programme included various aspects of management in a short yet crisp format from the perspective of teachers / faculty. The iter-area exposure in terms of classmates and courses is one of the many highlights of the programme. . It is through the interaction with various faculties that I realized the importance of research for an academician in ways more than one.  Two of the biggest take homes for me from the programme were the case based teaching method and the pedagogical diversity. I would strongly recommend this programme to serious academicians and academic researchers who wish to truly excel in their field.

Dr. Bijal Mehta has been actively involved with higher education institutions as an academician since the year 2004 with institutions namely the AMA as visiting faculty, IIM – A as Research Associate,  the Gujarat University and the Ahmedabad University as a full time faculty. She has worked in industry in marketing, consulting and training areas for 4 years prior to joining the academic profession. Her industry experience at India and the south-east encompasses knowledge management, training & development and business development.

Bijal ‘s research work is primarily in the areas of Marketing Communication, Entrepreneurship and Services viz. Financial services, tourism and hospitality services , heritage management, and marketing on the digital and  social media platforms. Bijal has written several research papers in various national and international publications, developed case studies and has published material in the form of chapter(s) in books on entrepreneurship and social media. Dr. Nalini Bikkina, Director In-Charge, GITAM School of Gandhian Studies

I feel privileged to have been in the FDP 2012 at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The four months of the programme have been a profoundly enriching experience on the academic front and an equally transformative experience on the personal front.

As Prof. Mukund Dixit had promised during the orientation that if we apply ourselves to it, the FDP would enrich us with knowledge, attitude, skills and habits, thereby making us KASH rich. Knowledge was lavished on us by the extremely accomplished set of instructors we had in the programme. Not only was their classroom presence awe inspiring in terms of their expertise, their course material portrayed a structure, focus and rich content above par. The schedules while being hectic provided for an intellectual and introspective roller coaster ride, creating a kaleidoscope of perspectives, experiences and personal-professional landscapes over the horizon.

There have been periods of intense psychological turmoil, at times due to the sheer pressure of schedules and a lack of sleep; other times owing to the dynamics in the group. However, a small group of teachers anchored my moorings at IIMA and have resurrected a failing belief in the nobility of this profession. Beyond the tangibles of training at IIMA, I took away priceless intangibles I hold very close to heart.

Currently, Director In-Charge of GITAM School of Gandhian Studies, I have been in the teaching and research arena from 2004. An ICSSR Doctoral Fellow, my research interests have been in the interdisciplinary social sciences with an emphasis on public policy. Being UGC NET qualified, I have worked on research projects funded by various national agencies like the UGC and the ICPR in my capacity as a Project Fellow and as Principal Investigator in projects funded by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. My current research is on Displacement and I am working on a related project for which I have been awarded the Fullbright Fellowship. I have worked extensively in collaboration with national agencies like the National Institute of Rural Development, the All India Radio, the Ratan Tata Trust and the Indira Gandhi National Open University and with the industry including Mylan Laboratories, Ebony Shipping and Vijay Nirman in a consultative capacity. With an interest in extension and  community engagement, I work in active collaboration with Social Sector agencies like the Akshaya Patra Foundation, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development, Dhaatri and Samata and have documented several case studies.

Having started a career in teaching, in 2000 albeit, in a freelance manner, I have moved into active research while working on research projects sponsored by the UGC and the ICPR, post my Ph.D, in 2004. My interdisciplinary interests in research and a brief stint in Andhra Pradesh Public Service as a Group I Officer in 2007 brought me closer to issues related to public policy which had formed an active domain of research in my career. I have joined GITAM University as an Assistant Professor in 2009 in Department of HRM and attended the FDP Programme in 2012. Owing to my passion in public policy, I have chosen all four electives in the FDP Programme from Public Systems, which had helped charter my career ever since. Having been promoted as Assistant Director, GITAM School of Gandhian Studies in 2013, I am currently also in charge of the Centre for Research in Public Policy at GITAM University.
