|1961||An MoU was signed to form the Institute as a Society on December 11, now celebrated at IIMA as Institute Day|
|1962||IIMA signs formal agreement for collaboration with Harvard Business School in May 1962|
|1962-65||Administration works out of Shahibaug bungalow office. First batch of students in 1964 stay in flats at Gujarat Housing Board and attend classes in ATIRA|
|1965||Ravi Matthai appointed as first full-time Director of IIMA|
|1966||Two full dorms (D-6 and D-12), 2 half dorms, and 5 Type-V and 20 Type-IV houses on the campus get completed and the Institute shifts its offices, library and houses to the Vastrapur campus – students and library in houses, faculty and administrative offices in the 2 dorms, and the kitchen and dining in the 2 half dorms. Classes were shifted from ATIRA auditorium and start operating from temporary structures on the campus.|

The IIMA Administration has involved hundreds of people working as officers, secretaries, attendants, technicians, gardeners, guards, cleaners, drivers, clerks and in several other capacities. IIMA’s staff strength increased from 24 in 1962-63 to 149 in 1966-67, crossed 300 in 1974-75 and the 500 mark in 1980 before reducing to the range of 300 to 400 after the mid-90s.
